Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London

At Claybrook, we love a challenge, and the renovation of this iconic and eccentric heritage building certainly was a challenge indeed. Narrow doorways and challenging site conditions did not make the task of achieving sumptuous five-star luxury an easy one, but trust Joyce Wang to pull it off expertly. Housed in an Edwardian-style building, formerly the Hyde Park Hotel and operating as a hotel since 1902, the premises are listed, meaning that designers had to work with the existing layout.

One of London’s most celebrated five-star hotels, the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park exudes an enticing mix of heritage and contemporary luxury. Claybrook collaborated with internationally renowned Hong Kong designer Joyce Wang to devise a built-in seamless soaking tub for the guest rooms, making the most of the space at hand. As a result, after close study of the site conditions and bathroom configurations, we painstakingly designed over seven variations of our bespoke soaking tub to fit the many room layouts and sizes.

Limited space to manoeuvre the baths on site proved to be the greatest challenge of the project. Our design team devised a two-part design for assembly on site, visiting the location to ensure all parts could fit in lifts, through doorways, and room entrances. Our in-house technicians then jumped on a flight to the U.K. to personally oversee installation and final touch-ups.
